GROUP CLASS RESOURCES

“What are the good group classes in town?”

I get asked that question once or twice a year.
I’m going to start keeping up with the recommendations my friends and colleagues have been so generous with.
This more formal list is starting in the November 2023.
I’ll date changes and additions as they come.

Feel free to send me other recommendations and/or opinions and experiences with those listed below. Thank you.

The Actors Gym for scene study

Fervent recommendation from one of my favorite artists: "My acting class is a godsend. The Actors Gym. Truly something I wish I’d found a decade ago."]

Website

The Barrow Group

[CG: really great reputation with both younger and established artists. This studio got more mentions than any other. Seth Barrish was singled out as an particularly excellent teacher]

Website

Scott Freeman's acting class

[CG: another favorite actor recommended Scott specifically but his studio has other teachers as well. Their client list include lots of working actors whom I admire]

Website

Tony Greco's class for contemporary and classic plays

Recommended by Keri Safran's clients [CG: I send folks to Keri for excellent dialect coaching]

Tony doesn't advertise but here's a link: https://www.genefrankeltheatre.com/classes.html

Here is his email : Tgreco@earthlink.net, write and he'll send back more info

Michael Howard Studios for scene study

[CG: the same folks who named Barrow Group named this studio, but with fewer specifics]

Website

Karen Kohlhaas from Atlantic Theatre Company

[CG: "pulls no punches" I think she only teaches within their full-term conservatory program now]

Website

MN Acting Studios

[CG: several of my colleagues from Cats train or have trained at this studio and recommend in particular Van Hansis' classes]

Heidi Marshall studio
